Depends if you are from a visa exempt country, otherwise you'll need a visa

You will require a visa. A good thing - you may have multiple entries to USA even if you have a single entry student visa

LOL. I am wondering why just for a day, maybe shopping! If you are not from visa excempt country you have to have a visa to cross the border. You can apply but single or multiple I think it is the same application fee. They will decide how long they want to give it to you for. They are a little bit different from the Canadian Embassy.

No, not at the border. One has to apply for it in advance.

They dont give 1 day visa, you have to apply for a visa at the US embassy in Toronto, I think the minimum they give is 6 months.
