brother in canada

HELP! i need your opinions.

I submitted my application to Sydney this January 2009 and I wrote that i have a half brother in canada.

I now have a copy of his passport but i can't prove that he is in fact my brother. he has a different family name and I also can't provide a copy of his birth certificate as everything was burned during ww2.

I have 78 points including the 5 points for having a relative in canada. i did not need the 5 points for relations. i should have written NO a answer but that would be lying in the application.

WILL WRITING YES I HAVE A BROTHER IN CANADA BUT CAN NOT PROVE RELATIONSHIP AFFECT MY APPLICATION? WILL THE PROCESSING OFFICER NOW SAY I LIED ABOUT HAVING A BROTHER IN CANADA WHEN I CAN'T PROVE IT?

explain the circumstances in a covering letter

get your half brother to provide an affidavit on his relationship with you including the family connections that you need to construct a family tree

If you was not able to prove that he is your brother, you will not be rewarded with additional 5 points and in that case you will still qualify. You are not lying, you just can't prove it and that will not make you inadmissible.
