Hi guys, i'we lived in US for past 10 years and we will be driving to Vancouver in May, here where i live in Colorado we don't have any Canadian banks or branches at all. I don't want to carry cash, but was wondering if i can do cashiers check on my name and once i'll land i can go to Canadian bank and deposit it there. Is there any other reliable way of bringing money to Canada ?
Like opening TD bank account here via phone and than i can keep account open and just transfer it to new one in Canada?
Thanks

All Canadian banks accept US bank checks and cashiers check. For a regular check, they usually take 10-15 days to clear it. For the Cashiers check it is little faster. There is no charge for depositing a check. However, do remember that if you are carrying a check and cash over 10K, you will have to declare it at the border crossing.
When I moved from US to Canada, I carried with me 3K cash and a check for 4K. This Kept the total value below 10K CAD.
