Hello all, I had a question if anyone has been in a similar situation or knows what to do...I am Canadian and my wife is Swedish, we had a baby who was born in Sweden and lived with her mother in Sweden while we awaited PR approval for my wife. Since our baby is automatically Canadian due to me, we applied to get her a Canadian Citizenship Certificate but so far it is taking a long time, my wife's entire PR approval finished and we are still waiting on our baby's citizenship certificate(they acknowledged receiving our application but not processed yet). We are set to land in a month or so and incase it does not arrive by then I was wondering how they treat situations where the baby has no Canadian ID and only a Swedish passport.
If your wife has received her corp and is planning on landing with your daughter i would suggest she carries her birth certificate and a copy of the application for your daughters citizen ship certificate. As they are visa exempt i don't see any problems with them but coming into Canada.
There is no issue for the baby entering on the Swedish passport. However, depending on your province, you may have issues obtaining provincial health coverage for your child without any proof of citizenship.
If your province requires proof, you can apply for a limited validity Canadian passport for the baby now, on the basis of having submitted the Certificate of Citizenship app.
Thanks very much for the info all. My primary concern was if it would cause any issues at the border, and the limited validity passport for ID for health coverage is good to know, thanks!
