We applied for my husband's permanent residencey in April 2012 and I got my approval for sponsorship in August I believe. Today my husband got an email to say he needs to get his fingerprints done from the RCMP within 60 days. What is the best way to go about this? I know we can get the fingerprints done here where it's approved by the RCMP. How does the process work? does he get them done here and then they will forward the fingerprints to the RCMP and then they will forward to immigration? I read somewhere that that's how it works...but I see on the letter they sent to us that there is a fax number and also courier address and another address. I want to make sure this is all done within the 60 days. Any experience w/this? should we fax if we have to send it ourselves? We are in the US. Thanks for any advice.
They usually do this when there is a name and DOB match for someone in the RCMP database. They are trying to ensure that your husband is not the person on record (with a criminal past) via a fingerprint search.
I'm assuming you have seen: http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cr-cj/fing-empr2-eng.htm
My reading of this is that if you are in the US, you can just pick a finger print service provider (a quick google search for such in your area probably sufficies. In some cities they actually have mobile ones that will come to you.) The standard FBI fingerprint card has exactly the right prints on it (rolled and flat impressions).
You will need to send the physical fingerprint card to RCMP - it cannot be faxed. My understanding is that the results are returned directly to the visa office in question (e.g., CPP-O), which is why you put the details of the visa office on the information sent to RCMP.
