Well, here is the deal. My last name ends with -skY, like Levitsky, Kovalsky etc. And that's the way I want it eventually to be spelled. But due to certain stupid transliteration rules my travel document and consequently COPR all have it spelled like -skIY. To complicate things further, my wife who has my last name, has it spelled like -skAYA.
We're landing in January. So what's the best time and procedure to change our last names spelling?
In India you can change it and take out a gazette notification in the newspapers announcing that this is the new name you will be using. Alternatively, you can create an affidavit that states the current spellings and those that you prefer and say that these are the same person/name. Best to speak with a local lawyer who can give you the best advice per your current country laws.
Thank you! But what if I don't want to change the name in my home country? My initial question was how do I propagate the spelling change in Canada, not in the country I'll leave in a couple of weeks...
