Hello Friends,

I am planning to get married soon and whats bothering me the most is the wait to bring my spouse to Canada after the marraige.

Can anyone shed some light and help me with the diffrent options a PR of Canada has to bring spouse to Canada. I have read that while the spousal sponsorship application is in process, the chances of obtaining a Visitor visa is highly unlikely.

Thank you!

The only way to bring ur spouse to Canada is to apply for spousal sponsorship.... U have no choice but to go through the waiting period.... There isn't always a shortcut to everything..... u have to put up with it like the rest of us have.... u'll hear stories from ppl ( most of whom haven't been through this process at all) that u shud do this n u shud do that but don't listen to n e one.... just make sure u have a solid application with all the required documents so that it doesn't cause further delay with the application.... while ur file is in process u can always visit ur spouse or go on holiday with them to somewhere else in the world.... all the best!

Before you marry you can bring your fiance to Canada on a visitor visa, and then you can marry and apply inland. If you are from a visa-exempt country then this is quite simple and you can even tell the border guards that you plan to get married and apply for spousal sponsorship.

If you are from a country that is not visa-exempt, then it is a bit more tricky. To qualify for a visitor visa your wife would need to show she was returning home. She will need to have a return ticket and other proof she will be returning home.

Once in Canada, you can apply for inland spousorship, and she can apply for visitor visa extensions until she gets to stage 2 (AIP) which at current wait times is 9 months. After that she could get an open work permit.

Yup and whatever you do, make sure your spouse applies for a "visit visa" BEFORE you are married. At least then he or she stands a chance of getting one. I'm sure that's what steerpike was alluding to, I am simply adding emphasis.
