Hi,
My wife is pregnant and she will give birth after 5-6 months and her Pr is in process. So, I am wondering what is the best way for her to get insured in Canada in the province of Ontario which will cover delivery charges and etc. Also, Can I transfer my insurance to my wife?
thanks
It looks like you applied outland. If that's the case, she won't qualify for OHIP until three months after her PR visa is approved and she lands in Canada and officially becomes a PR. For the first three months after her arrival, she will have to pay for any care she receives herself. Unfortunately it's too late to obtain any insurance that will cover the delivery. These types of insurance products are available but have to be purchased before the person is actually pregnant.
No - you cannot "transfer" your insurance to your wife.
ok thanks so what are the other options? some said Alberta has coverage the day after landing is it true?

Yes - that's true. But you can't just move there temporarily, use their health care services and then leave. You would need to remain and live in Alberta for at least 6 months (better at least 8 months) after the birth of the child. If you move earlier, Alberta will charge you with defrauding their health care system and will come after you for the costs of the care you receive. Based on the cases we've seen here, the costs they come after you for area always quite a bit higher than what it would have cost if you had just paid for everything yourself.
Yea we might stay there for 1 year. will that be a problem?
If cost is a concern, use a midwife
