I would like to get a few of my household items shipped from India to Canada. Please provide me with a few courier agencies (except DHL and FEDEX, as i have contacted them and they are very expensive). I dont mind if the items reach me late via ship.

Try to check with international moving company, I don't know what company you have in India

It'll be costly to do so.
In India they use 220V and in Canada its 120V.
What else left behind

Take in luggages anything you absolutely can't live without
I'd take extra baggages with me paying the Airlines

Try your airline. I did that and paid some Rs. 40K for more than 200 kgs extra and all my luggage reached with me in Jet airways enroute to Belgium. No waiting and running from pillar to post for ur courier.
So no Tension :)
Try to avoid any Indian couriers bcoz mostly they will tag your stuff in a large container for which they dont even take guarantee of damage.
Be careful !!

Hi Udarayadhya,

Congratulations to you for the Visa success. There are a lot of shipping lines that are there in Mahipalpur or Nehru place. They send the shipments to overseas at much lower costs.
