I am a new graduate in Canada and my goal is to apply for PR next year. I am still waiting for my certificate to be a registered massage therapist. I recently got accepted to work in a clinic (which is self-employed) as an independent contractor, however, it's only verbal for now because I am not registered yet, but I could start working as soon as I got registered. But she said there would not be any contract for me to sign and I could make my own contract for her to sign if I wanted to. I've been reading somewhere that working as an independent contractor is not counted as Canadian work experience. However, I found out that we can request a ruling from the CRA to determine if my situation is considered self-employment or employee (And if this will aid me when I apply for PR).
My question are:
1. In my situation, should I find another job where that offers employment, and what are the chances for me to be declared "employment" through CRA ruling
2. Is there anything I could include in my contract that can benefit me when I apply for my PR (to increase my points)?

You need to en employee of the clinic for work experience to be counted as Canadian work experience. You need an employer where you will be paid and have EI/CPP deducted and then receive T4.
1. Yes find another employer if you want to count experience as Canadian experience. If you don’t receive T4 and an employee you are self employed.
