Hello there,
I am putting together my application for sponsoring my Common Law partner. We have lived in 3 addresses, but there is one address we lived at for 4 months I don’t know if we have enough information for it. Since it was a short term sublet we didn’t change our mail there. I do have the original Rental agreement with both of our names on it and payments to landlord but only I paid, my spouse didn’t pay. Not sure if that alone is enough? For the other 2 addresses we have more than enough evidence.
For this address would I also be able to provide?
Photos of us living in the space over many months, along with Craigslist/Airbnb listing of the space to prove we lived there.
Delivery services such as Amazon, DoorDash or Uber Eats to that address
Hi, you need proofs covering atleast a year of cohabitation. These can include things like joint bank accounts joint utility accounts rental agreements tax forms individual bank statements amazon shipping receipts letters from friends or family attesting to your relationship etc. I would print out a document checklist for the application from their website. It will show you everything that is needed for proofs of cohabitation. Do you have these proofs covering atleast a year?
@Joeydocs great to hear I can use a dated Amazon receipt. I have proofs covering a year, it’s just in that one apartment we lived in for 4 months we didn’t change the addresses on any of our items, since it was temporary.
So the confirm receipts with the address are good.

Perfect. Essentially you always want to meet the requirements of the checklist as this will be your best friend through this whole entire process. Also if you need any assistance in filling out forms and guides you can check out the complete guide on their website with detailed instructions. Also have you declared common law or your marriage to the cra? Usually they will give forms listing your relationship.

Nope haven’t declared common law to the CRA since we only became common law a few months ago. Is declaring common law to CRA something we should do before applying?

I mean it’s not completely necessary given you have a lot of other things to prove your relationship, but it very much would help your case considering it’s a government form that literally says you’re common law. I submitted my application today. I had never filed before in Canada until this year and I came in 2017. We just submitted the common law forms from 2019. Btw you can update your marital status by logging onto your cra account.

I am planning to apply for PR with my common-law partner. I have a question regarding the lease agreement. In the past two years and the current lease agreement, my name, my partner's name, and the name of a friend (because the apartment is a 2 BHK and we have a close friend living with us) are all included. Is this acceptable as one of the proofs for our common-law partnership, or does the lease have to include only me and my partner?
