Applying outland, on an open work permit...need visitor visa.

Hi All

I am currently living in Canada with my Canadian husband, I have been living here on an open work permit or working holiday visa. Our PR app has been sent to London, UK as of 3 weeks ago. According to the website we should have a result by December time or so. My current visa expires at the end of September. I would like to be able to get a 6 month visitor visa to cover that waiting period. Because I am from a visa exempt country I can't find the right information for my situation. Can I apply for a 6 month visitor visa...and would I have to leave and re-enter to have it issued? I know I can't get an extension on a working holiday visa...so I guess visitor visa is the way to go.

Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.
