Hi, I'm an Egyptian international student, but i used to live in Kuwait right before i came here.
I've been an international student here for 3 years and a couple of months, my study visa expired on 27th of August. I applied for an extension and got refused, because i submitted a wrong document. I applied for a restoration the day after and that too was refused. Now I can't go back to my home country, because I was in the 2013 Rabaa protests and massacre, my father's political situation and the situation in Egypt overall. I also can't go back to Kuwait cause I can't get a residency over there, the maximum i can get is a 3 months visitor visa. I want to apply for refuge, but I don't know if me staying 3 months after my visa expired is going to affect my chances and if my chances are high enough to be accepted in the first place.

If you can afford it, I would get a consult with a good immigration lawyer before you apply. That lawyer can look through your evidence and discussion the grounds on which you are making the asylum claim - and let you know what your general chances are of success.

The overall situation in Egypt isn't grounds for asylum. What you want to prove is that you yourself are specifically targeted and cannot go back. I'm not sure participating in the Rabaa protests is grounds for asylum - unless the government has specifically come after you personally following the protests (in that case that would be good evidence). In terms of your father's political situation, hard to know how much that helps you make a case for asylum - it would really depend on the details.

Again, I think you would best be served sitting down with a lawyer to discuss. Good luck.
