Applying from abroad

HI everyone,
I have an open work permit, but still in my home country. I'll arrive in august.
Can I start applying for jobs just with my work permit number or should I wait until I get a SIN after I get to Canada????

Others can comment , by all means you can apply for jobs but nobody will probably be interested until you are actually in the country. Obtaining a SIN takes no time at all, either at the airport if a Service Canada is open or the nearest one to where you plan to live, issued on the spot if you have the correct documentation.
