Hello everyone! I need some help.
My fiancé is planning to come here next year to be with me as there was a new program to reunite even the extended family members. He doesn’t have a visa yet but when I was looking onto the cic website it’s also requiring to get the IRCC authorization letter for him to travel. My question is should we secure the TRV first and then apply for the letter or should we get the letter first and include it in the application so the chance of him being approved is higher? Thank you!

Get the TRV first. Note that processing times for TRVs are extremely long right now so try to get the application in asap.

Wrong advise. IRCC states that you should submit request for authorization alongside the TRV application. A notarized form IMM006 will be submitted as your proof of relationship while applying for TRV. If approved, you will get your VISA and Authorization letter at the same time.

Ah - I wasn't aware. I had a friend who did it the other way around. Guess that was wrong and thanks for the correction.

I was reading the last page of the IMM006 and it says there “Failure to complete the form in full ma y result in the foreign national’s application for a visa or eTA to not receive priority processing and/or refusal to board.”
My understanding is it might help for him to get an approval for his TRV, right?
Thank you so much for your reply.

You are correct. But that was the method before the exclusion of extended families from travel restrictions.

Yes, it is a criteria and requirement for TRV processing for extended family members right now. However, the foreign national must still meet all other requirements for TRV approval.
