Applying for Spousal open work permit from India

Hello,
I have a 2 year valid work permit for Canada and my wife has a visitor visa to accompany me.
From a couple of posts here, I learnt that Open work permit for spouse can be applied from India.
I am aware that I(my employment in Canada) meet the prerequisites to apply for her OWP.
Can somebody provide a step-by-step procedure to do the same?
We both are currently in India and will be travelling together to Montreal in Aug 2012.
Also kindly indicate the duration it takes for receiving the OWP in India.

Hi There,

Since time is very less, I would suggest to apply OWP when you are in Montreal. The advantage in Canada is that you can apply online.

Following documents are required.

1. Valid TRV of your wife
2. marriage certificate
3. you work permit should be of NOC A [Check this one].

The OWP will be generally issued for one year initially and need to be renewed again.

The expiry of OWP will be the same as your work permit.

Anyone who is going to stay more than 6 months in Canada need to do medicals.

Hey Priyum,

The medicals are already done for both of us.
My work permit is of skill level B (NOC 2232), I think it should be ok.
Is it easy to get an OWP at the PoE? or is it just a matter of luck?

Hi Ajay,

There is no luck factor here. If your work permit [category] allows to sponsor OWP then they will issue.

In least cases they may ask you to apply online. In this case it will not take more than 220-30 days.

Hi There,

I have the same situation. I am currently in Toronto on a WP. My wife is back home in India and she will be travelling mid Nov. Can i apply for her OWP from India?

I have heard that the OWP applications in Canada are taking close to 60 days now. So was thinking of saving on the time.

Please let me know.
