Having a hard time finding this information. My mother was born in Quebec and I'm the first generation born abroad (US), so it looks like it's possible that I will be given a citizenship certificate once my application is reviewed.
If/when I get that certificate saying I'm legally a Canadian citizen, can I work in Canada without a work permit? I mean, first I have to move there - I'm presently residing in the States - but if so, is there a residency requirement before I can work in Canada? Or a waiting period?
The moment you obtain citizenship or permanent residency you're authorized to work. No work permit required, it comes with the status. Just remember to get your Social Insurance Number, employers will need it.
Thank you so much for your response. My other question if I may is ... if I'm granted citizenship (because my mother was born in Canada), seeing as I live down here in the States, do I have to establish Canadian residency before I can apply for work or before I can get any benefits such as health insurance benefits? I think I read somewhere that there was a 3 month wait on the latter, but I'm not sure about the residency requirement, if any.
