I just applied for OHIP yesterday after receiving my OWP and a full-time employment offer and wanted to share the details for anyone in the same boat, because I've seen a lot of questions on this.
I brought the following to ServiceOntario:
-Work permit
-Passport
-letter from my new employer stating my position, the date I was hired, that the job is full-time and permanent (literally spelled out that it is for more than 6 months), my home address (this also counts for their proof of address they need), and had it signed in blue ink (I guess to make it easier to tell it's an original).
They gave me a piece of paper saying I'm eligible for OHIP three months from my hire date, and that I'll receive the card in the mail about a week before that date. My health card will be good for about 2 years- when my OWP expires, and then I can reapply.
you're in Ottawa? Awesome! Personally I think it's the city that gets overlooked as a destination. The housing and economy seem to be more stable than all the "in demand" cities. love love love living here.

I garnered up the courage and I went to Service Ontario in Brampton with my pilot owp and all the things you went with and I also got through. I am eligible for OHIP 3 months after date on employment letter. Thank God and thanks Lizzy I would not have done it If I never saw your post. Since so many people are saying pilot owp is not considered by service ontario.
