My SO and I are applying for Permanent residency (outland via Mexico) in April however my family in Canada has a family business and would like to offer him a position starting in July (our application for PR will take longer than just a couple of months.)
The position is not a 'skilled worker' position, is this possible for us to get a work permit for a position that is not considered skilled?
It will likely be difficult - but you can certainly try. Before your SO can apply for the work permit his employer (your family) will have to apply for a LMO. If the LMO is approved he will then be able to apply for the work permit. To obtain an approved LMO your family will have to prove that you were unable to find a Canadian for the role - as well as satisfy several other conditions. More information on LMOs is here:
