Hello there,

I am writing today seeking for an advice.
I came to Canada 5 years ago , last year I had my PR card .I have wife and a 5 years old kid both from Canada.
Me and my wife are unfortunately separated for about a year now and living in different places too.
My Pr card is valid for another 4 years but I would like to apply for citizenship as I always had a dream to join the forces and other reasons that being citizen is requirement number 1 .
I am wondering if I Can apply for my Citizenship status and also wondering if the fact that I am separated and possible divorced in near future would impact negatively on my process,
what are the pros and cons ?

Thank you for your help everyone

Under the current laws you will have to wait until 2020 to apply for citizenship. Being divorced normally does not impact an application. Were you sponsored by your spouse for PR and if yes was it conditional?

Thanks for the reply.

I was sponsored by her but it was not conditionally.
why 2020 ? I saw that was after 6 years of being living in Canada I am eligible to apply.
I haven't check since a year ago and not aware of the new changes

Nothing changed in the law. You need to stay in Canada for 4 years in last 6 years "after getting your PR". Any time you spent in Canada before you got your PR is not counted.
