When my American husband came to Canada in May, we booked him a ticket for a month, we hadn't seen each other in six months cuz I was denied entry to US a few months earlier, we didn't know if we were gonna get married in Canada or US, as he was living in Hawaii for five years, didn't know he'd like nova Scotia as much add he does.
That being said when they ask what the purpose of his visit was, do I say to get married, cuz after the fact it is.
Do I bring up his ticket was only booked for a month and we changed our minds?
Your post is a little confusing but I'm assuming you mean that your husband came to Canada in May on a visitor's visa and now wants to apply to extend his stay. If that's what you mean, I would say that he originally came to Canada to visit his wife and wants to extend his visa so that he can continue to visit Canada with his wife. Simple.
You may want to get him a return ticket though. Otherwise it will start to look like he doesn't intend to go home.
We got married while he was here. Originally our goal was for him to come and visit and we'd work on getting back to Hawaii. I didn't have enough ties to Canada to get into us in February.
You can apply for the extension. Once you file the application he can stay in Canada until CIC makes a decision on his extension application. Again, I'd make sure you get him a return ticket and emphasize in your extension application that he's just here to visit, not live here.
Ok sorry I'm confused. His time in Canada is up on November 2. We are applying for his extension this Monday sept 30th. We won't get an answer back for 1-2 months after his 'visa' is expired.
We originally had a return ticket for him for the end of may, but we canceled it.

CIC will want to see that he has a ticket to leave the country by Nov. 2 if he can't get an extension. Now, I know what you are thinking. They probably aren't going to process his application before that date, so the ticket is a waste of money.
You want to have a return ticket with a return date prior to Nov. 2. You can get tickets that allow you to extend the return date if necessary. This is what you want to buy so that if CIC hasn't granted the extension by that date you can extend the return date or just get a refund/partial refund.
If you are mailing it, I would use a courier or some service that provides proof of delivery to deliver the application so that you can actually show you have made the application. UPS to CIC Vegereville from Toronto was about $25.
Again, make sure you emphasize that he is only here to visit and will return to the US if necessary. Assuming your husband has no other issues that would affect his admissibility, you should be fine. Good luck.
