I am applying for PR as common law spouse and with my application i am sending in an application for a work permit. I currently am on an IEC open work permit that expires in the next few months. I want to continue to work while my PR application is being processed. IMM 5710 is confusing and stressing me out in regards to question #3
"I am applying for one or more of the following." the options are
a.) Apply for a work permit with same employer
b.) Apply for a work permit for the first time or with a new employer
c.) Restore my status as a worker
d.) Get a new temporary resident permit
I am currently on an open work permit with the IEC, I rang the customer service line and asked about this and was told to use option A.(applying for a work permit with the same employer) but I was wondering if anyone had additional clarification.
I have a follow up question that maybe I should post as a new thread, but I'm hoping someone can help me. My American partner and I are in a similar situation as pow8867. I'm sponsoring him as a common-law partner for PR in Canada and he was also previously on an IEC-open work permit. On IMM556 the work permit check list, under required documents it says "if you are a participant in the IEC program, provide proof of health insurance covering the intended extensions of your length of stay in Canada." Does this apply to us? Technically he's no longer part of the IEC program right? He has MSP (BC health care) and extended health benefits through my employer and it is exorbitant to buy travel health insurance from the US generally, but particularly in Canadian dollars. I know the issue previously when I asked was repatriating his remains in case of death but the deductible is $200k USD so he would be staying here anyways lol...
