We need to choose which office will process our application. My husband is Thai but we have been living in Mongolia for almost one year with 1 year visas that will be renewed in September. So my understanding is that he can choose between Singapore or Beijing. This also means that the Regional Specific Requirements will be different. If we choose Beijing rather than Singapore which is the usual processing office for Thai Citizens will it unduly delay our application or cause problems and confusion?
Does anyone have experience going through a processing office different than their home country office?
Hello, we had to choose which office as well because my partner has been working here in Thailand for over two years now. Our choices were between Manila, my partner's home processing office and Singapore. We decided to choose Singapore because the Manila office asked for more documents and wanted our original marriage certificate which I was not comfortable with sending in case it got lost. In Singapore they only wanted photocopies of it. Also, we took into consideration that we may be called for an interview and it is cheaper and easier for us to travel to Singapore for that. Not to mention when they ask for your passport, it may be more difficult to send. We didn't really care about the processing times, as Manila is listed as a much shorter wait because we are on one year contracts anyways. Also, reading the threads on here and comparing both offices, we are more comfortable with the Singapore office. These are just factors we considered when choosing.
Just remember that if you choose Beijing - rather than Singapore (for his country of birth) - send copies of his valid temporary status with the application proving that he was admitted with status valid for at least one year and that his status is still current. If you forget to do this, the application could be transferred to Singapore by mistake . . . either by CPC-Mississauga, or by Beijing. That could significantly delay processing, especially if CPC-M sends it to Beijing per your request and then Beijing sends it on to Singapore. Another thing, make sure the DMP who does the medical knows which RMC to send the results to so that Beijing can access them.
Thanks for the advice Hycore.
RobsLuv what copies exactly do I need to send to show his 1 year Temporary Resident Visa. a)just a copy of his passport pages? b)and/or a letter from my work explaining that he got a 1 year visa because I have a 1 year Working Visa and that it will be renewed in September? Should I get this and send it too?
It says on the CIC website under reasons that applications could be delayed: Principal applicant living in a country not their own. This is especially why I was wondering if it's better to choose Singapore..thoughts for a Thai Citizen?
