I am a PR in the middle of spousal sponsorship application and I know I can't leave Canada. But is there any way CIC would let me leave the country since my spouse's family member will be passing away soon?
You can leave the country with a valid passport, but whether or not CIC considers you living in Canada is another issue.
If you are a PR sponsor, you must be residing in Canada but you can still leave for short trips without them considering you to have moved away. However, make sure that you have a reliable person checking your mail and messages in case immigration contacts you and do not stay away for too long. I would say 2-3 weeks max. to keep it safe.
