My boyfriend will graduate from his university in Korea in December 2019 with a Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering.

He's looking to take the IELTs next year. Spent 8 months on a tourist visa here studying English. He's preparing for an International English Business course (June-August) and preparing for other certificates (Excel, English and something else)...

He will try to get some kind of visa to come back to Canada in 2020, April the latest. He told me he found something about an internship in Canada from his university but hasn't looked much into it yet (he is just aware that there is one). He'll try to get that internship but if not, he'll also apply to other visas.

I am only familiar with the visas we have in Canada. He'll apply for working holiday as well. But he also said his country's government (Korea) has other visas available in his country for Canada?

Anyways, what are some tips for him to find a job in Canada and set motion the process of immigration? He would like a job first before marriage.

Thank you.

The working holiday visa is the best option for him. There aren't any other special visas for Korean citizens as far as I know. He probably doesn't qualify for Express Entry if he's just graduated.

If you two are planning to get married, the other option is to come in as a tourist and get married; you can then sponsor him.

Thank you. I’m going to ask him more about these visas he says he saw offered by the Korean government.

We have spoken about marriage but right now he wants a stable job before getting married.

I highly doubt it's the Korean government that offers visas for Canada. That would be Canada that offers visas to Canada. Korea would not want its own citizens to leave, unless there is a clause for them to return to Korea after foreign studies or work experience, for example. Both of you have to find out if there is a catch, if indeed it's the Korean government that funds/offers like this. It could be an intelligence or espionage thing for all I know, lol.

Also if it’s relevant, I live in Ontario, which he hopes to come back to next year.
Not relevant until he gets work experience outside of Canada or chooses to study in Ontario.

I clarified with him and it’s not exactly a visa but just many opportunities provided by the government there and other institutions that helps Koreans with gaining experience in the workforce abroad! He will have to come back after the duration is done.

I brought up the province since it seems certain provinces have their own ways of immigration. Threw it out there in case someone from Ontario knows more about it.

Then you can cross this option out if he plans to come to Canada permanently...I suppose that university internship you mentioned is related to this.

Anyway, bottomline, it'll take a few years before you can get your BF to Canada through these 2 main options:

1. You get married and you sponsor him through Family Class (spousal sponsorship).

2. He gets foreign work experience and applies through Express Entry--either directly through the Federal Skilled Worker program, or through the Ontario Provincial Nomination Program's Express Entry-based stream.

If you plan to get married anyway, I would say #1 would be easier than #2. No need for IELTS!

If he plans to come here to study English as you mentioned in your original post, it's not going to be relevant in either immigration application.
