Hi,
I am a foreign worker from Brazil. I Applied in early November for an extension of my work permit with the same employee, but I am still waiting for it. Then, I am supposed to apply for a new TRV, because mine will expire on Dec 31. If I leave the country, will I be able to entry Canada a couple of days before my VISA expires, if I have the work permit? I am afraid the VISA won't be ready before the new year. Thank you,
::)

If you are able to renew your work permit before you depart Canada, in my opinion you should not have any issues although your TRV would be close to expiring.

Thank you for your reply.
Is this an usual procedure? I am asking because I was told that the VISA must be valid for at least 3 months for them to allow the entrance in Canada. Do you think that a Visa that will expire in 1 or two days, if combined with a work permit valid for 6 months will be accepted?
Thank you again,

I entered Canada on a TRV that was expiring in 40 days so the part about TRV must be valid for at least 3 months is totally incorrect. Your TRV unlike a visitor visa is dependent on the validity of your work permit.

Although I am surprised that you would be having a work permit valid for 6 months as usually a work permit would be issued for at least 12 months. Still with 6 months remaining on your work permit you should be okay.

To avoid any issues with CBSA I advise that you apply for the TRV while you are in your home country.

All the best.

The 3 month or any arbitrary concern is only in the case when VISIT visa is your only grounds of stay in Canada.

You might have a work permit and you enter Canada a day before expiry of trv and then never exit canada and renew your work permit while being here.

Nothing wrong with this. So you are fine as long as you enter Canada before expiry of trv.

@astasi - I have a valid work permit and I am planning to travel to home country - INDIA on a vacation (My Visa is already expired). I know that i can apply for TRV from INDIA. But would that cause any probelm? Any rejections on visa?

None that I can think of.
