Dear
I recently got COPR and imm visa stamped on my passport, i wish to understand certain validities . . .
1. The visa stamp on passport says visa will expire on 16 may 2016 -- (says same on COPR)
Q 1] Does this mean i have to LAND in canada ON OR BEFORE 16 may 2016 ?
Q2 ] My medicals were done on 14 May 2015 -- so i assumed visa would expire on 14 May 2016 -- (one year later) so how come expiry date is given as 16 May instead ?
Q3] There is another date on COPR that is the expiry date of COPR which is 21-4-2020 (what does this date mean ?)
Q4] After I land in Canada I assume PR application is done at the airport -- is this true or can i apply for it later ?
Q5] When will the validity of PR card start (from date of landing or date its issued) and when will it expire ?
Q 6 ] What is the difference or relation if any, between validity of PR card and validity of COPR (date shown above ) ?
Q 7] What is POF -- does this mean proof of funds ? are we supposed to take a certain minimum amount of cash or bankers cheque to canada when we land ? even if we are going initially for few days ?
Can we show funds still lying in our native countrys bank, to be brought into canada later ?
Thanks

			Dear
I recently got COPR and imm visa stamped on my passport, i wish to understand certain validities . . .

Q 1] Does this mean i have to LAND in canada ON OR BEFORE 16 may 2016 ?
Correct but why wait for last min keep some buffer. If you dont land or get late by one day COPR will expire
Q2 ] My medicals were done on 14 May 2015 -- so i assumed visa would expire on 14 May 2016 -- (one year later) so how come expiry date is given as 16 May instead ?
I presume its a goofup should have been 14 may. Which ever is earlier is your last date. MR date + 1 year or passport your and dependent expiry.
Q3] There is another date on COPR that is the expiry date of COPR which is 21-4-2020 (what does this date mean ?)
 No idea.
Q4] After I land in Canada I assume PR application is done at the airport -- is this true or can i apply for it later ?
This is done at apt and most imp step. You fill all the forms at airport.
Q5] When will the validity of PR card start (from date of landing or date its issued) and when will it expire ?
To my understanding its from the date its issued. However days are calculated from your landing date. You need to have 730 days from landing date in canada to renew PR
Q 6 ] What is the difference or relation if any, between validity of PR card and validity of COPR (date shown above ) ?
 No idea
Q 7] What is POF -- does this mean proof of funds ? are we supposed to take a certain minimum amount of cash or bankers cheque to canada when we land ? even if we are going initially for few days ?
Can we show funds still lying in our native countrys bank, to be brought into canada later ?
When you file for PR. You may be asked by visa officer for POF. You have to show POF either in form you money in bank account or cash
Thanks

Congratulations of your successful processing thus far. Here are my replies as far as I do understand:
Q1., YES you will have to land in Canada on or before May 16, 2016.
Q2., My guess is, despite the fact that you presented your self for medicals on the 14th, perhaps the medical doctor or hospital did not log you in on the 14th till 16th. That's the only logical reason I see such a case happening. MY ADVICE LAND BEFORE THAT DATE, WHY WAIT TILL THEN ANYWAY.
Q3., That is the date your PR Status will expire.
Q4., YES will fill out some forms for PR card at the airport upon arrival after Confirmation Of Permanent Residence (COPR) document has been stamped by immigration officials.
Q5., You become a Permanent Resident(PR) once you land and your card is issued a few weeks thereafter, so YES your card starts reading from date of landing because that is when you are confirmed a PERMANENT RESIDENT.
Q6.,The former is the Card issued to you after the latter has been sighted and stamped by the immigration officials upon your arrival.
Q7., YES its Proof of Funds. And YES you are required to take along with you at least the amount set aside by CIC for your family size. However, you can take more than that. YES you can show proof of funds still in native country's bank to be transfered later or you could use your debit card to withdraw. The immigration officer may ask to see your Proof of Funds at the airport upon arrival.
I hope these will be of help to you!
