My son submitted his citizenship application last month (March 2017) with a photocopy of his old passport expiring on May 2017. However, he applied for a passport renewal last January and received it only last week (Our home country passport renewal takes 12 weeks). The problem is the new passport issued date is January 26, 2017.
Please advise what to do.

I am not telling you what to do, but how about photocopying the relevant pages of the new passport and sending it along with an explanatory letter to IRCC? Or you could call IRCC and ask them what to do?
