Hi everyone,
I would appreciate it if someone could help me choose the best option regarding my PR application.
On Tuesday, May 7th, I have submitted my application for the OINP Master's Stream. The status of my application is still "Submitted," so I haven't been charged the $1,500 fee yet. However, up until I submitted the application, I did not realize that the stream does not fall under the Express Entry category, so I will not be able to apply for my PR online after I receive the provincial nomination. Instead, I will have to use the paper based process, the waiting time for which is currently 15-19 months.
I currently have a permanent full time job in Ontario, and on December 2019, I will have 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada (NOC B), which will make me eligible for Express Entry. Based on the Comprehensive Ranking System tool, I would have over 520 points had I applied in December 2019. The waiting time is also significantly less, just 6 months versus 15-19 months for paper based PNP. I also would not have to pay the additional $1,500 fee, which I need to pay to be considered under the OINP Master's Stream.
The advantages of withdrawing from the OINP application and applying through Express Entry in December would be that I would save the $1,500 fee, plus I would get my PR much faster (by June 2020); I also like the fact that the entire process is done online. The disadvantage is having to wait until December 2019 to apply.
The advantage of going ahead with the PNP application is that I should be able to apply in July 2019 instead of waiting for December without having to worry that something might change by December, be it my work situation or immigration laws; however, I will only get my PR by September 2020 at the very earliest. I will also have to pay the $1,500 fee in addition to the $1,050 PNP fee; and the paper based process looks more difficult.
Considering all of the above, I am wondering if it would be better to withdraw from my OINP application now while I still have time and apply for PR in December via Express Entry, or proceed with the PNP application.
Look forward to hearing your opinions!
