Hello everyone first off I would like to say thanks to anyone who replies.
I will attempt to lay out my situation as plainly as possible, then hopefully get some advice.
I am a Canadian citizen (by birth), my husband is American. We have been married for 1 1/2 years, but a couple for going on 13 years. During those 12+ years, he has lived here with me undocumented. We were very young when we got together, and dumb, and broke. Our initial intention was to move to America, but due to some medical issues with my mother we stayed here, 1 year became 2, then 3. At which point we figured we were passed the point of no return and terrified about doing anything immigration wise. Afraid to be separated.
Now, as years have passed this is where our life is. My husband is considered a local in our small community, and he has grown to think of it as his home. And we have decided to do what's right and apply for a PR.
With all that said, if something were to happen, we broke up, or god-forbid I died or whatever. He would no doubt move back to the states. Also the idea of us moving down once its financially reasonable is still on our minds. That however would be years from now.
Here are my questions, and once again thank you in advance.
1. Is PR sponsorship even what we want, in other words, is there another "lesser status" that would be better for us.
2. Should we be doing an inland or Outland application. He still has his U.S. address if that makes a difference.
Any other general advice would be appreciated^^
Edit:
Another question. On my birth certificate there was a mistake and a hyphen was added to my name. I have never spelled my name with a hyphen and it isn't on my passport. Now this seems ridiculous but I have been told that can be a problem when I file. Is this true?
