I am sponsoring my US husband to come to Canada and I know I have to put his children, mother, father, brothers and sisters if he has any but what about half brothers and sisters? He has 2 half brothers but only one of them has his father's name on his birth certificate. The other he didn't know about until he was already born and he had to have a paternity test, but still his father's name isn't on the birth certificate. It's a complicated crappy situation with children outside of their marriage etc. I am just trying to figure out if I have to put his half brothers on or not as their mothers aren't related to him if I put the half brothers on do I have to put their mothers too?
Our Consultant advised me to put my step brothers and sister on my application so I imagine half siblings are just as important. Someone else may have more information but this is what I did.
if there's no relation with them, then you can do 2 things:
1) put their name, put "unknown" for other information, and write a letter explaining the situation
2) don't put them on the list - i did not put my step-family on the form since my father is deceased and I have no contact with them as family.
They are both active parts of the family, they visit weekly if not not more, they reside in the same town as my husband and his family. We can get the information it's just a very touchy subject with his mother and his father stepped out. His father is well irresponsible to say the least and expecting him to get this information to me is highly unlikely.
