Hi,

I am 37 years old and have closer to 16 years work experience and I am a senior software architect. I was asked by my organization to move to toronto branch. They generally apply for permanent work visa. I have a daughter who is 7 yrs old in schooling. I want to emigrate to toronto as I like this city. Only thing is I have an old mom (widowed) who is 75 yrs old. As I am the only son, I want to taker her with me along with my wife and daughter. Based on average salary for my role in my organization, I am sure I can vouch for full financial support to my mom, wife and daughter. Before confirming in my organization, I would like to know how feasible it is to take my mom. My mom is not that comfortable in english. Kindly guide me whether this is possible.

Unfortunately it's not feasible. She is not classified as a dependent and cannot move to Canada with you. The most she can do is visit you in Canada temporarily for short periods of time - although it's not guaranteed this will be feasible since it will depend on whether she is approved for a TRV (tourist visa).

You cannot take her along with you on your work visa.

You can have her apply for a tourist visa independently of you. This may not be approved if she has no ties to India and it looks like she's moving permanently with you, but it's worth a shot. She'll only be allowed for six months at a time.

If you become a PR of Canada, then you can get her a supervisa which allows her to stay for two years at a time. You may also be able to sponsor her PR.

My org may try for PR too. But I read some forums that even if we become PR, it is not concrete that sponsorship is guaranteed. Also, if I get PR supervisa is guaranteed?

Supervisa is certainly not guaranteed.

You can apply to sponsor your mother for PR but only after you've lived and worked in Canada for at least three years (after after you are a PR yourself). Also, only a liminted number of applications are accepted and you may not be picked in the first year you qualify.

Nothing is guaranteed, but supervisas are typically quite easy to get. The purpose of a supervisa is to let elderly parents stay with their kids for long periods of time, that's exactly what you're looking for. You still have to meet the eligibility and other requirements.

The parent and grandparent PR sponsorship is now done through a lottery. They have roughly 25,000 slots and well over that number apply. If you are lucky and you get through the lottery then PR is more or less guaranteed (assuming you meet the eligibility and other requirements). The lottery is random so no one can say if/when you'll get through.

Thanks a lot for your response. It would be really helpful for me if u can point me to some place where I can get eligibility and requirements for super visa.

PGP was actually changed this year from the lottery to a first in online submission. The spots were filled in about 8 minutes.

I don't really know which one is better.

With a lottery, I assume everyone who enters has an equal chance.

With a FIFO, it becomes a case of whoever manages to get the lowest latency! One blip in your internet connection and bye bye visa. And I'm sure there will be people out there attempting to write scripts that get in faster. Like eBay snipers.

No easy solutions though.

Yeah, it is an ongoing debate. When they had the FIFO system where apps could only be dropped off in person, people got mad because couriers were lining up the day before with hundreds of apps and charging hundreds of dollars per app to do this. People from across Canada were mad because they felt it gave those living around Mississauga an advantage. Many then called for a lottery system. IRCC brought in the lottery system and again, people got mad, "it's not fair", "I've been trying for years already" etc. They changed to the FIFO on line system and same thing, people got mad.

No matter what system they use, people that don't get in will always be mad.

Just so you know, the only person who can apply for PR is you. Your "organization" can't do anything about it for you.
You would have to meet the eligibility criteria and qualify for selection. Until then, all you can have is "temporary work permit".

There are also no guarantees what will happen to PGP next year since it is an election year. There certainly will be changes no matter what. 3 years down the road is a long time so who knows what will happen to the program.
