My daughter will come to Canada in the next few weeks on a study permit. According to the CIC website, a minor requires either a parent or a custodian. My wife and I wish to accompany her as the parents. Would both of us be able to stay for the length of her study permit or are only one of us allowed? Secondly, if we can only stay up to 6 months, would doing a round trip between Canada and US by car be sufficient to extend the visa for another 6 months (the return would be after a week)? Would a visitor record be issued to either my wife or myself or both? Can a driving license be issued based on a visitor record?
So have you already applied for a TRV successfully ? There is no guarantee you would get a TRV even if your child has a study permit or even a guarantee of an extended stay. You would need to be convincing to CBSA that you can support a family without working.
Not necessarily a good idea to try resetting a stay by exiting and returning given always a chance you could be denied entry. If you need to extend a visitor record there is a process to do that without leaving.
As a visitor rules can be different by province but Ontario for example you can drive for 90 days after which you need International driving permit as well as your home country licence. Do not believe you can apply for a licence whilst a visitor.

Thanks for your response. I already have a TRV valid till 2022. I do have rental income from abroad so I do not think that might be an issue.
For example, in December if I road tripped to the US and returned after a week. Will there be a chance I am denied entry?

Yes - there will certainly be a chance you'll be denied entry. CBSA generally frowns on flagpoling. If you want to extend your stay in Canada, you'll be better off applying to extend your stay while in Canada.
