Hi everyone, I'm graduating next year and I accidentally worked a total of 13 extra hours in 3 weeks (4.5h, 4.5h, 4h) this month. It's paid through etransfer and I gave out an invoice (with dates & hours on it). But there wasn't any legal names or SIN or taxes around. I've never exceeded the limit before. How would it affect my PGWP next year? Any info is appreciated, thank you!

Thank you. I saw there's a huge pile of posts asking about things like this but not a single one with the situation that the pgwp was actually refused Lolll. Tons of "I worked over 20h, what'll happen to my pgwp", zero "my pgwp is refused due to over 20h work". Hope things will go well. Happy new year.

The more concerning issue is that you are being paid under the table which is essentially working illegally. Are you declaring your income on your Canadian taxes? I assume your employer is paying you off the books which is illegal. That is more serious than working a few extra hours for 3 weeks. If you are upfront and admit that you lost track of the hours for 3 weeks and worked 4 extra hours for 3 weeks you are usually forgiven for being honest because it is a small mistake.

Unless you work on SIN the canadian forces will not know , it is a fact , I know many students working much more than that , Government also knows , but they are politically correct , and would not take any action , they will act only when the damage has been done.

100% will be declaring it on my side. May or may not be receiving a T4A from them tho since it's less than $500. Which part of my case made the work illegal, off-sin? Sorry not a pro at taxes & business laws, just curious.

It sounds as though your employer is not paying taxes or declaring they are employing anyone. Working in a job where you get a cash etransfer, no SIN number required, etc. is a very good sign that your job is likely not being declared to the government. It is good that you are going to declare your income but your employer is not employing you legally and therefore not taking any deductions to pay the government. When finding employment you should look for jobs where you need to fill out tax documents with your SIN # on the first day.
happy new year. dear you can work. but imagine some other international student couldn't find a job because you worked extra.
is it morally correct? you decide.
rules are very clear.
