1. Do I need 2 different police reports when I have lived in two different towns within the same state?
2. Do I need one from Canada if I've been here a year?
3. What are they looking for exactly?
Two years ago, I was really dumb ( I feel now) and I 'took custody' ( as the policeman said) of a former alcoholic friend. My question is, my name is probably on the police report as I took him home but I never did any wrong, was never fingerprinted. Just asked a few questions.
Note here: my friend was drunk in the street with -20 temperatures (farenheit). he prossibly could have died that night. I am a nice person and really didn't want that on my conscience.
4. Could this affect everything?
5. Finally, can I just walk in and ask for a police report? Or do I have to make an appointment?
From what I understand Americans need only submit a FBI background check now... I believe it changed in June. I sent in FBI and state checks for each state I lived in didn't realize that they were only good for 3 months they were long expired in April when they received them and my FBI was 4 months old, they never requested new ones and I am awaiting the return of my PP. They run their own checks with-in Canada so unless they request an RMCP report there is no need to include one.
It's a two-step process: you get your fingerprints taken (depending on where you live, local or state police will take them; you can also get them taken at fingerprinting agencies or by some PIs) and then mail them to the FBI (with a request letter and payment). The details are available at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/north-america/united-states.asp.
BTW, if you've lived anywhere else for over 6 months (other than Canada), you'll need to submit background checks for that country also.
Thanks. It feels weird ( Though a good thing) This is the first time that I am fingerprinted ( except a child abduction kit). I live in a small town so this will probably be an interesting conversation piece. Especially since my mother works in a grocery store
lol. yeah or " why was your daughter at the PD this morning? My sister-in-law's brother's best friend's girlfriend claims to have seen her there."
" are you really asking me this? You have WAY too much free time." or "no comment, I don't discuss personal matters at work. If you really need to know, she's in the immigartion process. To get away from busybodies like you. Have a nice day."
