3 year Tax return requirement

Hello Experts,

I have been in canada since 2018. I make good income to satisfy income requirements for sponsoring my parents. However, in 2018 since i worked only 3 months in Canada, my gross canadian income was below threshold. 2019 and 2020 will be fine.

In 2018, with rest of my income in USA, i will meet the income threshold.

Question : DO i need to wait until i file 2021 taxes to apply for sponsoring my parents or can i account for my USA income and consider 2018, 2019 and 2020 as three years of tax qualifying tax returns. Please advise.

You need to wait until you have at least 2021 taxes. It is income while in Canada on your Canadian tax returns. There will be changes to the program so you will see if you then qualify to apply in 2022.
