Dear readers,

We think we'll be arriving as Landed Immigrant with Canadian Sponsor and Dependent in June 2018.
We want to travel to USA as soon as possible to visit elderly/sick relatives in the USA for two weeks.
My foreign spouse (Landed Immigrant) already has a US 10-Yr Multiple Entry Visa and will carry a PR Visa (I understand from previous threads, that the COPR is only for first entry.
Me may have evidence of a PR Card Application (copy of application forms or GC acknowledgement)

1.How long does it take to get the PR Card?
2.Do we need the PR Card to travel out or back in to Canada?
3.In your opinion, how soon after landing with COPR and PR Visa can we travel to the USA?

To answer your questions:
1. See this site http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/ and select 'Permanent Resident Cards' > 'No, I am waiting for my first card'. As of this moment it would take 57 days for the card to be mailed to you after landing.
2. Travel out of Canada: no, you do not need a PR Card to leave canada. You may exit as you please.
Travel in to Canada: If you are flying to Canada, the airline will ask you to provide a PR Card or a Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD) before you can board the plane. If you are driving across the border, you can just use the CoPR that was stamped during your landing interview and the CBSA officer will be able to verify your PR status.
3. You can travel to the USA as soon as the same day you do your landing (provided you have the necessary visas and travel authorization for the USA). During the landing you'll be asked for an address in Canada where the PR Card can be sent. This has to be in Canada and CBSA will not send cards outside of Canada. If you cannot provide a Canadian address, you will have to request a card at a later date, but within, I believe, 180 days after landing.

In short, It all depends on how you want to travel from the US back to Canada at the end of your visit.

If you are driving across in a private vehicle, all you would need is the CoPR which will be stamped and returned to you after the initial landing. If you are taking a plane, you'll need a PR Card or a PRTD. Depending on how long you are in the USA, you may be able to apply for the PRTD in the case of flying, but be prepared to be without your passport for a number of weeks.
