Hi we are due to land in Toronto in July with our 17 year old son who has obtained his full driving licence in UK , he obtained it in April. Will he be able to exchange it for a Canadian driving licence, any help please.
If you look at http://www.drivetest.ca/en/license/exchangeReciprocal.aspx he will probably get a G2 license which is a probationary license. After 2 years, he can take a road test and get a full license.
The probation part refers to him not being allowed to drive with any percentage of alcohol in his blood, he would lose his license after half the demerit points that the loss of a full license occurs and also for the first 6 months of his having his license, he can only drive with one passenger aged 19 or younger between midnight and 5 am but after 6 months, he may drive with up to 3 passengers aged 19 or younger. I assume that they made these rules because of kids in a car at night may inflict peer pressure on each other when it comes to speeding, racing etc.
