I am currently on my Post Graduate Work Permit and employed at a company. It expires in January 2027. My company has suggested that they could help apply for my work permit after that. I'm assuming it will be a closed work permit. Can you please advise:
- what is the right time to apply for the closed work permit and for how many years can i get it for? I noticed the current wait time if around 6 months.
- i am trying to move to a different province and work for the same company. Does the closed work permit have a geographical limitation? Like I can't leave the province the company is situated in despite them allowing me to work remotely.
1. You are not eligible for a closed work permit.
2. Your employer needs to file, pay and be approved for a LMIA. The LMIA proves that no Canadian has the education, work experience and language skills to do the job. Your employer will have to post your job and start the recruitment process from scratch. Make sure high wage.
3. LMIA will tell you what office and province you can work in.
