BLS had told me to self attest and email CGI to request for a waiver from attestation from CGI requirement and include copy of that email with the OCI application. When i email CGI they responded saying attestation from CGI is required and they are providing this service for via mail-in. I called BLS after that again. They then said follow CGI instructions

I still believe you could get the appointment for the attestation service in CGI Toronto. Please send an email to CGI for appointment.

Does anyone know how to make these checks for a mail in application for surrender?

Application says its two checks: one with surrender fee ($119) + passport retention fee ($103.4) + consular service ($3) and then the other with the BLS processing fee ($7.4). Is this right? Person I talked didn't have the best English and I'm really not sure. I got my Canadian citizenship in 2019 end but didn't cancel my Indian passport

Also is there any penalty or problem if the Indian passport is expired? Would really appreciate any help

I would suggest to go for walk-in services to BLS. You could easily avoid the confusion around the number of drafts and the draft amount. You could pay the fee and service amounts with your debit card for the surrender application.

You could surrender an expired passport as well. There is no penalty when the Passport is not surrendered up to three years and not used for travel after obtaining foreign passport.

In my case, the marriage was performed on 3rd Dec, 2020 and it was registered on 15th Dec, 2020. Both in India. Here is the link to marriage cert as well.

You'll have to provide the date for which you have official documentation for. Provide whatever date is shown on your marriage certificate. The marriage is only considered legal from the time it goes into the official records (aka registered) AFAIK.

Hi Raj, I saw your signature regarding surrender passport timelines. How did you check the status on PP site. When I enter the file number (application number for surrender passport), it says no record found. BLS status shows "Processing at Consulate General".

Do I need to wait for the file number ?

You'll have to login to the PP seva site and then check your status. You can't check status from the homepage without logging in.

Has anyone applied for entry visa while OCI is in process ? Is this something doable ?
I have to travel in December and I fear if I file for OCI, it may not come on time . In that situation , would it be possible for me to apply for an entry visa ?

Hi Ajit, I am in the same situation. Please let me know if find anything from BLS. I will also try to check if the surrender passport receipt can be used as a surrender certificate in entry visa checklist.

yes you may Apply Entry visa while your OCI is in process.
