Hi Everyone,
Can some one help me understand the difference between Letter of explanation and SOP. I am applying student visa for the first time and CIC website shows that I only need letter of explanation. Can some one let me know if I need to submit both of these documents.
Hi
Did you get the visa after re-applying?

Canada immigration seldom asks for interview. Therefore, SOP is your chance to talk to the VO and explain why you want to study in Canada. Technically, SOP is not mandatory. But it doesn’t hurt to submit one. SOP is nothing more than a short essay about you, why you want to study in Canada, how your program would help your career growth once you go back to your country.
HTH!

If an applicant doesnt attached SOP with his /her application then the visa officer may organise an interview?

May or may not. May also result in refusal as some applicants experienced. That’s why it is safer to just submit SOP even if it is not required.

Think positive, mate! Nobody can say, for sure, if an application is approved or refused except the visa officers.

The theme of a SOP is geared more towards the first time visa applicants. In this case, the applicant will more likely talk about how the advance studies is going to complement past academics and how it will brighten up the future career scope. In addition, various other topics will be addressed such as capability to finance studies & living cost, why particular program, why Canada, why particular institution etc...
The theme of a LOE is geared more towards the re-applicants (after their visa has been rejected in past). In this case, the applicant will start first-half of the letter by explaining what went wrong in previous applications and on what ground it was rejected. How those issues are addressed in the present application. In the later part of the letter the usual SOP stuff goes in.

Thank you everyone for explaining the difference. Does any one have a link to a good SOP and LOE document that I can use as a reference. Thanks much and have a great day folks.

Thanks on your explanation on the difference between SOP and LOE.
My question is this; As my wife is applying for the first time for her student visa, she can only submit SOP, right? Not submitting both an SOP and LOE in her application?
Kindly respond ASAP, only SOP or both SOP and LOE?
Thanks.
