Canadian child overseas, absent father

I am Vietnamese living in Vietnam. I have a son (8) from a Canadian father. We are not married but the father agreed to be on the birth certificate and signed documents and did DNA test to prove his paternity.

The father left Vietnam years ago and never gave support money. I don't know where he lives but I know his home city. I would like to receive child support and I want my son a Canadian citizen. I only have his birth certificate proof and the paperswork his father gave: DNA test results, written oath he is father, copy of father passport

How can I get child support for my son? Can he get Canadian citizen and passport?

You need to hire a lawyer to apply for child support.

if the father was born in Canada or was a naturalized citizen (i.e immigrated then got citizenship after pr) then your son is a Canadian citizen by descent.
if the father also got his citizenship by descent then your son cannot apply.
So how did the father become Canadian?

A Canadian lawyer? I can't ask Canadian embassy? I don't have money for a lawyer unless I know it will work.

No. Child support is a civil court issue and not related to immigration or foreign affairs.

If the father was born in Canada, then your son was born a Canadian. He already has citizenship. You can apply for his citizenship certificate then get him a Canadian passport

Note that getting your son citizenship will offer you no opportunity to gain citizenship or residence in Canada.

I would add currently. As once that child is adult and he / she would be living in Canada and will have enough income, you might be sponsored in parents and grand parents program.

You are jumping the gun just a bit, the kid is only 8. As mentioned, just by him having citizenship it will not expedite you coming to Canada. His education funding, support and you coming to Canada via him are two different things

Thank you, this is not me going to Canada. I want my son to go as adult if he want. Money is little and I also want his father to help support him or pay for his education in Canada. But I'm happy he can get citizenship even his father won't help. I want my son to have a good life.
