That was one of my biggest concerns especially after someone mentioned that CIC send only scanned copies. I was worried that most of my docs wouldn't be sent and it's actually good everything I've sent will be available to a final visa officer reviewing our application
Good point, yeah! It also helps explain why it seems like people going to the same VO get transferred on the same day, regardless of the exact timeline of the rest of their application (at least I have noticed this for sure with Vienna) -- they must get collected and mailed on a regular schedule.
They do! I've seen a post very recently where one member reported they got an email saying their docs were forwarded to Singapore VO (I guess?) via VAC and there was even a tracking number included in that email!
Agree with me how awkward should be the feeling when you know your application is somewhere right across the street! Not a case for me though, but I was thinking about those who live in Sydney, NS and who's applying for sponsorship from there
Yes, though the way they define "straightforward" is uncertain, as they redacted the pages that detail their specific criteria, unfortunately. I would be most curious about this part, since our application by all accounts should be fairly straightforward, but it didn't stay in Mississauga. The bulletin does state that the application must meet all criteria, so if there's even just one you don't meet you're going to your local VO (e.g. my partner and I were legally married for less than a year when we filed -- is that one of the criteria? Who knows!).
My wife and I are married less than a year as well but we have proof of relation more than 3 years leading up to marriage. Our file is in CPC-M now. Hoping thats where it gets decided

It has happened couple of times with clients I have helped at my office, where CPC-M requests additional original ID's for births registered late in India and those ID's were returned back to representative address in Canada by NDVO.

Oh yes, please don't misunderstand: that was completely a made-up example to show how arbitrary "straightforward" could be! I debated not even including it because I didn't want anyone to get hung up on it or accidentally start a rumour.

Got PPR's from CPC-M on two not so much straightforward cases in September 2018. Outland applications were filed in July, received PPR in September. 2nd marriage for the sponsor and major age difference.
