I personally know of a guy who got his CSQ and tried to extend his stay with an open work permit, and it did not work. He had to stay as a visitor, precisely. Then somebody told him that he was in fact, eligible for an open work permit, but it was all so confusing and mixed information. In the end, he dropped everything and went back to France. He could not stay here without work, and nobody wanted to sponsor his closed permit...
I am sorry people are going through similar situations with these constraints...

I got an email for passport request on 27th July and I will be sending it today.
Strange thing: Nothing got changed on my status on CIC portal. @Macarad You might be getting some news soon.

Dear I can only advise to be patient...I have a friend of mine who did the medical back in April 2016 and they just asked him to redo medical in June 2017. VO Paris...I think it depends how many cases and also the background check that take long, as he wrote them and they told him it was background check...He paid all fees even RFPR and sent his federal back in September 2015, so Imagine the time period.

Nope they asked him back in March 2016 and he send it in April 2016. No upfront from his side...so there is possibility that the medical expired and they wanted a new one.
I would call bank in this case to see if it reflects on your card statement, looks like a glitch, but if you have reciept, it is a confirmation that CIC has received the payment.
But Make sure it is linked with your profile.
