Hi all, wondering if any one of you can give some suggestions. Me and my family came to Canada March 15th, 2010 and we became permanent resident on March 15th, 2014. From march 2010 to May 2017, its 1150 days. Are we eligible to apply for citizenship or do we have to wait until fall to apply. Thanks in advance.

Hi, you will have to wait till the new 3/5 rules comes into force... hopefully by fall of this year!

Thanks for the reply but isn't the new rule is 1095 days. Between March 2014 to May 2017 its 1150 days. What do you think?

It said copy . so photocopy should work

The new rule is not effective yet... Its still the old rule.

So according to current rule (which is old rule)... you need 1460 days after PR = which means you are eligible to apply March 2018.

According to Bill C-6 rules you are eligible to apply on March 2016! Becasue it will count 1 full year of your pre-pr time.... But this new rule is not effective yet.

The day the new rules come into force you will be eligible right away. Hope its clear!

It does not need to be a 4-year degree?

Yes it can be as short as 12 months diploma but completion is required.

I am in the same boat I only have a 12 Month certificate from a Quebec College it says on it that it was completed in English but was so worried it may not be enough

I know people who have submitted 1 year diplomas from Canadian Career colleges and they have been accepted. However I am not sure what you mean by a 12 month certificate? If you mean you have not completed the course, then they will not accept it.

Since the bill is passed; I have couple of questions now.

1. Pre-PR credit applies to only previous 5 years or there is no limit?
2. If I qualify with Pre-PR credit then my minor kids and wife will have 2 years of residency. Will they also qualify with me or they have to complete 3 years of residency? Thanks

Nope, this certificate is not admissible. Please look into acceptable language proofs. It has to be post secondary. Book a date. YMCA sometimes gives it free for new immigrants or for low income families. Don't take chances. If rejected for want of docs, it will inc. processing times.
