Besides not receiving PGWP, what happens if we apply to a DLI with a PGWP eligible program, and then switch to another DLI but in a non PGWP program after the first semester? The reasoning for doing this would be so the spouse could get a SOWP, but then attend a school for the remainder of the study permit that is actually within our financial means.

I see mixed reviews of persons who have been able to receive SOWP based on spouses studies at a DLI but non PGWP eligible college. I know the c42 is clear but is it an oversight on the officer’s part at times?

Who are “those people” and when did they get their permits? There is a policy in place not to allow SOWPs at DLIs that don’t give PGWP. I expect this to get even stricter as IRCC is going to to be reviewing DLIs and may be revoking schools status in the coming year. Schools will have to be approved as “Trusted Institutions.” SOWP is not even guaranteed if spouse is attending DLI with PGWP.

if those are the only reasons then I wouldn’t be badly off. This would be my wife’s second program. The additional 2 years would be sufficient time for me to pass TEF and get us over 500. March will make 2 years CEC. I just don’t want to commit long term to another set of intl fees. And I can’t find an LMIA. Jobbank is useless. So switching to a dli but non PGWP after first semester. I wanted to know of any repercussion from visa officer’s end

Understood. So just to be clear. As far as you are aware, there shouldn’t be any repercussions for changing to private from public after receiving extension study and sowp
