Which area in Ontario is cheapest in terms of purchasing an apartment/condo and how much would it cost. You all seem pretty knowledgeable, please guide. TIA.
South of Hamilton (Grimsby and Stoney Creek ) are affordable. Kitchener and Warerloo area is growing very fast and lot of new Condo projects are coming up. In Hamilton, I saw 10-12 20+ floor new Condos under construction in the downtown area alone. Thats 2000+ new condos within 2 km radius. All the suburbs in the West of GTA and close to Niagara are witnessing many new condo projects. Check these areas.

Congratulations to you and your hubby.
I'm happy to hear another success story cos I was beginning to think I just massively lucked out :D. My life(and family's life) is so much better since moving here, and we thought we had it good before. My DH and I have great jobs with combined annual gross of $285k (this is a big deal living and working in SK ;)) and 30th of June will make it 1 year since we moved into our own house.

We sacrificed a lot over the years and took a huge gamble leaving the known behind for the unknown, but everything worked out for us

I thank my stars everyday that I decided against ON and BC to live in, right from the start.
While I can, I'm not moving to BC or ON either. I'd like to continue to spend my time building companies instead. Good to see folks with similar stories.

Immigrating here worked out for me, though. I landed last year in August, found my job in 2 weeks and the pay was alright. I got my car a month later. I've also been doing freelance work for my previous company where I emigrated from. Its pay is more than enough to cover my living expense and my car loan ( finishing in 3 years, I did not want to drag this), so I can save my full salary that I earn in Canada.

My husband's PR was approved and he will be moving here from the US soon. We had saved enough for down-payment before I arrived in Canada, so we will be looking for a house as soon as he is here (and, touch wood, find a job).

I am nowhere doing as well as my friends, to be honest. Some of them are out shopping for their 3rd house. If you are persevere enough, you can do.
The main issue with the housing market is that the prices are incredibly inflated because of speculators and house prices are fluctuating in the hundreds of thousands. I read in the news that some people who bought at the peak of housing market in 2021 on 0% interest cheap loans are unable to sell now because their house value went down significantly and if they sell, they need to pay a huge chunk of the mortgage back out of their own pocket.
And these people want to sell to because their monthly mortgage payments went up because of interest rate hikes, people who were paying 2.5k before are now paying 4k, completely insane. These scummy banks instead of foreclosing are increasing amortization period to 40 - 50 years putting people in even more debt. Imagine being in a huge debt for 50 years, what a nightmare.

If you are buying a house today, you are simply paying 30 - 40% speculator tax which is like giving away your hard earned for free :D

When you buy a condo in Canada, you have to pay maintenance fees for life and this can go upto 1200 dollars in some places, what a scam.

Congratulations to you, too.

Personally, while I don't believe 100% in luck, but I sometimes remind myself that I am fortunate, and that I should be grateful for what I have. :)

Can somebody remind me why majorgrom and kangaroo (I think?) left Canada?

Did they get their passport and leave or did they just leave as soon as they came here?
MajorGrom had health issues which became worse in Canada due to healthcare mess and he was tired of Canadian job market.

Kangaroo was bored, sexually speaking. His dates were not fun and he found them too easy. Basically he was sapiosexual and there was not enough stimulation in his part of Canada.

All of them hated Canadian job market.

Can't remember why majorGrom left but Kangaroo left cos he couldn't get a girlfriend.
I heard he got bored of girls here. They were not intellectual and fun and too easy for him.

It seems like there is a lot of negative news and regrets about immigrating to Canada. What about people who made it in Canada and think it is a great life choice? Can anyone share their successful & inspirational story?
